These are general guidelines.  Unfortunately, it has become increasingly common for insurance companies to "carve out" psychiatric benefits to specialized companies.  Furthermore, these companies tend to merge, split, and rename themselves so often that even they often don't know who is on their provider panels.  In light of this, we'll still need to check the specifics of your plan to make sure we're a covered provider.  If we are not, we'll still be happy to see you, but be aware that your insurance company may provide (even more) restrictions on coverage of non-network providers.

Of note, we are NOT providers for the following plans:

bullet

United Health Care / United Behavioral Health (as of 7/18/05)  We asked UHC/UBH to renegotiate their inappropriately low reimbursement rates, but they refused to do so, leading me to resign from their network.  I've repeatedly written and asked them to remove my name from their printed and web-based provider manuals, but they persist in listing me, presumably to make their network appear larger and more comprehensive to potential new customers, who won't find out that the listing is fraudulent until after they have paid their premiums.

Cigna (as of 5/22/07)  We also asked Cigna to renegotiate their inappropriately low rates, but they refused to do so as well, so we have resigned from their network.   This is from a company who made $1.16 billion dollars in net income in 2006 (http://www.cigna.com/about_us/investor_relations/release/4q06release.pdf); a company whose CEO is paid $28.82 million/year (http://www.forbes.com/lists/2006/12/0BHA.html).
